Kinda confused, just got back - Guild Wars Forums

Hey
So I just got back to the game after a couple of years, however I'm kinda confused. It's something that's been bugging me for a while, but how does all those players make that much to afford all those expensive armors and items? Back when i started playing GW, I just quested and didn't really get anywhere... Today i tried FoW for the first time, only with heroes, it went ok, wiped at the second quest, and i obtained an Obsidian Shard, anyways, I was wondering, what do you guys do, to get going? How are you able to get all that gold? What am I doing wrong?

After some years absinse[grammar] this game sure can be confusing.
to answer your main question there are some tips:

*Some people Powertrade(buy low sell high)
*Some people do Speedclears(Finishing FoW,Underworld and Domain of anguish at fast times,to get end chest,and repeat.)
*Some people offer services i.e doing Vanquishes for other people whilst they afk, filling up Heroe's Handbooks, or other kinds of service(running place to place isnt much to get into anymore)
*Some people just play the game, enjoy it, and get Obsidian Armor and other various items just by having some good luck

My best tip would be to try start doing FoW-Speedclears, because the team-build uses a vary of proffessions, so you should probably have one of them.
Browse gwpvx.com for the builds that suit you, and then join a group in ToA (protip,learn the frontline roles first,if your used to being a war/derv, then you can watch what the other team-members do before trying that out.

I believe i did DoA, like a year ago when i decided to finish Nightfall, but you don't happen to have any tips or builds or something to go through them do you?

In order to do DoA efficiently, you need to join an DoA sc guilds (otherwise ull spend 2h in a pug group, which..sucks)
look in the guilds recruiting section on guru

I'd personally say start with fow too. I'd say the monk role is really the easiest to start, all you do is heal and there's even some videos on youtube if you want a preview of what fissure of woe speed clear is like.

Then, I'd probably get into doa. It's the quickest way to get money, and probably the most fun speed clear to do (besides some dungeons

)

And yeah, Olle's got the right idea. In order to finish doa in a decent time and not spend 2 hours just to get a few gemsets, you should find a doa guild that teaches. There's plenty of them in the game. Although, you'll be asked to fill out an application to join the majority of doa guilds.

my suggestion is do EoTN dungeons. Fill books, get end chests.

Then start trading. You dont have to be a power trader to make money, just be patient.

Probably nothing.
For one thing, although there are a number of players who have amassed a lot of fantasy wealth, there are also many more, like yourself, who haven't.
There are a lot of reasons for this. A few I can think of:
- time. Some people (like me) have a lot more time to play, and therefore, get a lot more done. If you only have a limited amount of time to play, you are at a disadvantage as far as wealth is concerned, if you want to actually play GW.

Back when things were newer, there was a much better market to sell various items like rare skins, etc. Nowadays, it seems that most things are too common and sell for almost nothing, or else they are so rare they sell for bucket loads. Back when I was doing my vanquishing titles, I would regularly find items that sold for 15-50k and I made lots of gold selling things through Guru Auctions (Thanks Guru!

). Nowadays, anything you find from a normal chest or as a drop while vanquishing is apt to sell for no more than a few k. Meaning that you would have to spend less time questing and more time selling, farming, or speed clearing to gather lots of gold.

Personally, I've always preferred just to quest and explore, rather than sell, etc, which is why I sold things through GA. I also never saw much sense in accumulating fantasy wealth, unless there is something expensive, you particularly want. You can't take it with you - literally.
Now that I finished getting GWAMM by buying enough booze and party items, I only have about 40k across 12 characters - but, then again, I don't need any more, and it builds up fairly quickly.

I've never power traded or farmed, this will probably sound silly but just save up. I used to be a fool and would end up buying some mini or green weapon everytime I got a decent amount of cash. Focus on what you want (outwith buying skills to beef up heroes to help you) and resist the urge to buy useless things (minis kinda ok, thats a title). If you going after HoM.

Once your heroes are decent you can drag em through FoW etc. for a couple of extra shards, but for me spending was my worst enemy

Do Zaishen bounties etc. they all add up. Sometimes I've done bounties then get a dungeon book and (paid) fill & realise i've done about 90%, extra free ?? and repeatable.
